GSoC Initial Contact
Hi everyone! I'm Boyan Zhou, a senior student majored in Electrical Engineering. I like coding, and I have taken several computer science classes(e.g. algorithms, operating system, etc.). I'm familiar with Linux, and have experience in c/c++ ,python and Java (more than 10,000 lines of code written in each).
The idea of simulating and analyze real world dynamic process is fascinating to me. It reminds me of my first Java project, which is to simulate the solar system, and to visualize the orbits of the planets. That's why I am so interested in this project.
Now I have just finished the first step of entry test. I have download the MBDyn and gnuplot and successfully compiled them. I use the example of "righidbody" as a input and then plot the movement:
For the step 2 of the entry test, now I have changed the original input file and add a initial velocity in z direction, re-run the test and the plot looks like this:
It's resonable that we get a bigger curve, since the gravity takes some time to reduce the initial velocity in z direction. I know it's a tiny modification and maybe it's not enough for step 2. I think I will keep trying some other tests.
For another thing, I have walked through the idea list and one called Embedded Optimization has draw my attention. I have taken Optimization Model class before, and I if I get it correctly, I think my knowledge may be helpful when doing this project.
It's the first time I try to engage in a open source project, and I am really forward to contributing something to the community. Now I am planning on implement a drive caller(for step 3), and I will be very grateful if I can get some specific instructions.
